Controversy in Abilene: CBD Store Owners and Attorney Chaile Allen Push Back After Police Raid

In the wake of a dramatic raid by the Abilene Police Department on House of Healing, a local CBD business, store owners and their legal counsel, Chaile Allen, are speaking out—accusing law enforcement of overreach and even constitutional violations.

According to an affidavit from the Abilene Police Department, the raid resulted in the seizure of 17.5 pounds of marijuana, more than 3,500 pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes, 191 THC vapes, 400 THC cartridges, and over 500 containers of THC-infused gummies. But the owners of House of Healing strongly dispute these claims.

Brittany Manske, who co-owns the business with her husband Brennon, expressed shock and frustration after officers arrived at their store on Saturday, August 23rd.

“We never wanted it to come to this. We were just as shocked as everybody else with what has happened,” Brittany said. “We’ve worked hard to stay in compliance with both state and local laws. To have this happen is very devastating.”

According to Brittany, what was seized wasn’t marijuana at all—but legal hemp.

“They seized hemp, which is completely legal in the state of Texas,” she stated. “We’ve been here for six years. We were one of the first businesses like this in Abilene, and we stand by what we do 100%.”

Associate Municipal Judge Chaile Allen Resigns Citing a Serious Constitutional Concern

The incident has taken on even more weight with a stunning development from House of Healing’s legal counsel, Chaile Allen—who also served as an Associate Municipal Judge for the City of Abilene. In response to the raid, Allen has resigned from her judicial role, citing a serious constitutional concern.

“It’s an extremely serious claim. And it wasn’t a claim that was easy to make,” Allen said. “After spending six hours in the heat on Saturday afternoon trying to get access to my client—after he had repeatedly asked for legal counsel while being questioned—it became a lot easier.”

Allen argues that the police continued to question Mr. Manske even after he invoked his right to an attorney, a potential violation of his constitutional rights.

She didn’t mince words in her warning to the public:
“Every citizen of Abilene should be really, really worried and really concerned. If this can happen to Mr. and Mrs. Manske, it can happen to anybody.”

When asked to respond to the allegations, the Abilene Police Department referred media inquiries to previously released statements, including a letter posted to the business earlier in July and a news release published on the City of Abilene’s website the day of the raid.

As the situation unfolds, House of Healing’s owners and legal team appear ready to take their fight to the courts—and possibly beyond. With serious legal questions now in play, all eyes in Abilene are watching what happens next.
